Flip It Sundays @ Peel

Hey, kids! Are your Sundays boring? ("Uh huh.") Big Brother and CSI: Wherever driving you bonkers? ("Aww shucks yes.") Wish there was something - *anything* - to do on a Sunday night? ("Boy howdy.") Don’t much care about work Monday morning? ("Gee golly no mister.") Well turn that frown upside down, and turn Sunday into Funday with Queen of Clubs Miss Jane, who has been queening over clubs and clubbing over queens since you were knee high. Well, if you were knee high in 1997.

Spinning off the success of Ticket to Ride, Miss Jane and clubbing legend cohort MizDomina have announced the return of high camp to The Peel with Flip It - so apologies to you low camp types, but you’ll have to look elsewhere. What the rest of us won’t have to look elsewhere for, however, is shows, music, décor, giveaways and all things camp.

Hostess with the mostess Miss Jane and MizDomina will be taking over the whole Peel, handing out giveaways like candy and ensuring that all Flippers are having a high camp old time. And they don’t come camper than showgirls PST – Pussy, Swish and Tabitha. The trio have never performed together before, so we asked Miss Jane to give us the low down. She wouldn’t. Though what she did say was, "PST is still under wraps! Expect the unexpected as these three jewels of our crown express themselves unrestrained, taking camp to a higher level over two huge shows with special guests, spots and fish tank mayhem!"

Fish tank? Yes, as well full room décor transforming the Peel ‘from drab to fab’, a human fish tank will be centrepiece at Flip It. What’s the story there? "The fish tank is creating a different ambience, having some fun, and honouring those who make an effort. Something to stimulate the senses, whether you’re in or out of the tank. Big Brother meets Nemo, hehe!" So, will bathers be required? "Why the hell not! You’ll get a deep diver’s cocktail if you do!"

The night also sees the return of none other than Shawn King behind the decks, after a four year break from the scene. Recharged and ready to go, Shawn promises a return to the days where we danced til dawn with unique remixes and the campest retro music around. We have it on very good authority that he’s used his break wisely, using the opportunity to experiment and further develop his style of music – and now has an exciting new collection of remixes that you won’t want to miss, as well as the old tunes you all know and love.

If that wasn’t enough, waiting for you at the door with a smile to thaw even the coldest of winter hearts is Sue Ridge. I hope you’re keeping count of the number of Melbourne’s finest getting together for this night, coz I lost track ages ago.

How much would you expect to pay for all this to cap off you weekend? $10? $20? Well you can send that money to me via the MCV offices, because you certainly won’t be needing it. It’s free entry all night, and it all flips off this Sunday at The Peel.
