Love Station 69
By Josh Dare
Train spotters – grab your anorak and thermos. There’s a new service coming to Melbourne that’s going off the rails, and straight into the deep end of our clubbing timetable.
Whereas also-new Wonderland is taking the over the reigns from Freakazoid, the organisers of Love Station 69 are picking up the scattered ashes of Freak’s old neighbour, Dome. Makes you wonder what happened about a month ago to wake up club organisers to the fact that when punters were crying for more when these two clubs shut a few years ago, so perhaps there could be a market there - but I digress. Both nights at Chevron were very firm favourites with this disconcerting clubber and many others whom I love and cherish for a few brief hours on Saturday night (followed by quite the opposite on Sunday morning - but I’m usually OK come the next weekend).
So with their Dome’d hats on, and the spirit of Melbourne’s late 90s club scene in mind, the organisers set put to create a glamorous once-a-month dance party that caters for everybody’s needs – not the mini pie and sausage roll kind of catering, but the straight / curious / gay / lesbian / bisexual / transgender / transsexual / plant / animal / mineral variety in traditional "for everyone" Dome fashion.
The result is music, entertainment and fabulous fashion, all in a newly renovated club that’s second to none. The old train vaults under Flinders Street Station are taking passengers of all classes and sexual preferences for a journey through two different levels of some of Melbourne’s best house music, provided by DJs Happy Dan, Vas One, Poise, Fady Esber and Daniel Iglesias.
On board for the ride is Pantha, who was the choreographer for Dome’s renowned shows. Under his watchful gaze, a smorgasbord of entertainment will be on offer to keep the night chugging. Make sure you and your good mate Thomas the Tanked Engine are there for drag shows at 12am, dance show at 1am, or the fire show at 1:30am. Don’t despair if you miss the shows, as there’ll be bar dancers in both rooms and Studio 54-style bus boys and bikini girls helping the party environment throughout the night.
Keeping in line with the Studio 54 theme is a VIP room, where special guests can enjoy their privacy, kick back with free alcohol served by skimpily dressed waiters, and relax with a rub down from the clubs’ masseur. So all aboard for the Love Station 69 express - stopping all stations this Friday and the every last Friday of the month after that.
