Locker Room

I have many vivid memories from my teenage years that I haven’t yet repressed - the main being the overpowering smell of deodorant in the school change rooms after PE. I still can’t walk down the health and beauty aisle of Safeway without thinking inappropriate thoughts.

So imagine my elicitation when I heard about Locker Room, which turned out to be one of Melbourne’s sexiest parties. You’d think with that much pretty, there’d be a kinda pretentious glaring slash pouting contest being waged on the dance floor – but it was all about the music, and having an awesome time with other cool guys (and girls) at a party where the vibe is electric.

For those of you looking for a point of comparison, many people have compared Locker Room to the infamous Circuit Parties in the US, which are self-billed as ‘the chance to escape the pressures of our day-to-day existence and to enter the altered world where friendship, dancing, love, spirituality and self expression are celebrated.’ Bringing the vibe of Circuit Parties with him on Cup Eve will be New York DJ Foos.

For the initiated, his real name Franklin Foos; and it’s pronounced, "just like ‘foos’ in foosball. It ryhmes with ‘loose’, although I wouldn’t use that word to describe myself."

So what’s the appeal with circuit parties? "A weekend of partying. The sound is the type of sound I am known for – high energy vocal songs that make you want to dance. Oh and did I mention the hot men?" As well as being a bit of a hot man himself, he’s an energetic and fun-loving guy - so you should be prepared when coming to one of his gigs. "Bring their dancing shoes, or Cha Cha Heels if you will. I just want people to have fun! I watch to see what the crowd responds to and adjust accordingly. If people aren’t dancing then I feel like I have not accomplished what I set out to do." He clarifies with, "My music is very active and energetic. I love to see people dancing, waving their arms and singing the lyrics with the music."

With only 10 sleeps until his premiere Australian performance, he’s looking forward to Locker Room. "[It’s] an opportunity to take my music to another part of the world, to learn more about the Australian music scene, and introduce to Australia a happy, high energy sound from America that is all too often rare at clubs here."
