MCV 252 – Kate Monroe
Dropp Kate
The title of "Australia’s first lady of house" was one that wasn’t earnt easily by Sydney-based DJ Kate Monroe. After thumping clubbers for over a decade (with her tunes, that is) at clubs like Home and YU; and events like Toy Box and Queer Nation , she set out to ‘bottle’ her distinctive underground house wares in the audial sense, and release a trilogy dubbed ‘Mat’ (under her very own label Mat Recordings).
Two of the trilogy have so far been released: March this year saw the release of Mat Black, which is now being joined by much-anticipated rock-your-socks-off Mat White. "I love Mat Black", Kate said, "I’m really proud of its vibe and the way people have responded to it, but Mat White takes it up an extra gear or five. It’s the sound of that accidental big-night out, or the one you’ve been planning for months."
Mat White features a few well-known numbers including the Andy Van Remix of Tom Novy’s, "Your Body", and Kate searched the world for the latest quality house tracks including, "Music’s Gotcha Jumpin’" by the Groove Junkies featuring Indeya, "I’m Coming Up" by Made & Sax featuring Michelle Weeks and the smoky vocals and peaking beats of "Brighter Day" by Dajae.
After months in the studio, Kate’s taking her new CD on the road – and her tour’s hitting Melbourne. Get down to Candy Bar this Saturday to catch Dropp’s Chicks on Decks, featuring not only Kate with her Mat White launch, but local DJs kdj and Saratone as well.
