MCV 258 – Abode
Abode
The things you didn’t know about Abode but were too afraid to ask, with JOSH DARE.
Let’s kick things off with a favourite of lazy writers everywhere, the ‘definition opener’. I thought the word abode only meant ‘home’, so imagine my numb shock when dictionary.com told me that it’s actually the past tense of ‘abide’ – which raises two remarkable points: my command of English is woeful at best, and that the name does perfectly embody everything this pansexual members’ club stands for.
You see, they employ the most friendly staff you’d ever encounter – above the friendly door staff and chipper bar staff, host The Colonel not only took time to walk me through the club on a busy night (while not getting frustrated at my incompetent questions, an achievement in itself), but said hello to almost every guest we passed –with their name. If the hospitality doesn’t nab you, the music will – rotating DJs including Syme Tollens, Lee Harvey, Ms Catonic and DJ Kat pump a hybrid mix of progressive and electro psychedelic funk for your audible delectation.
A copyright slogan and your right in the club is ‘freedom of self expression’, which means you can feel free to dress as you see fit: from fantasy, alternative to sassy or even just smart casual, Abode provides a non-judgemental environment. However, this is where ‘abide’ comes in – to make sure Abode remains such a friendly domain, there are some house rules. As well as a standard no drugs policy, there are no exposed genitals in the club, nor sexual activity; and just like any where else, ‘no means no’. Above all, it’s a matter of respect for diversity which ensures that each guest (including you) enjoys the hedonistic pleasures on offer – so stop stalling by asking questions, and go satisfy your curiosity. Check the website for details of upcoming nights – including their Purity NYE party, and their regular ladies and friends night Tongue n Groove.
