MCV 268 – Nicky Siano @ Market
Hey Nicky! (Nicky! Nicky!)
Oh Nicky, you’re so fine – you’re so fine, you blow my mind, says JOSH DARE.
When I’m 50, I hope I’m still banging as much as Nicky Siano is. Well, for now he’s still 49, but he’ll be celebrating his fiftieth birthday at The Market when he makes his unprecedented seventh return to the club for an exclusive set. Hell, not even Tina Cousins has popped up that often – and I think she’s moved into the backstage area and all.
Who is Nicky Siano? New York magazine named him as one of the ‘100 people who changed New York’, as he was a pioneer of the dance music scene in the early seventies. The original slashie, he was the owner / designer / DJ of legendary seventies club The Gallery (when he was only 17, mind you), which in turn inspired Studio 54, where Nicky was also chosen as one of the original two DJs. He inspired and launched the careers of Grace Jones, D.C. La Rue, Loleatta Holloway, Larry Levan and Frankie Knuckles – who recently made an awesome appearance at The Market himself.
Since then, he’s been busy producing, running parties around New York (the most recent being the renowned Twelve West parties) and, of course, touring. When his tour bus comes to town next Friday, make sure you go along to not only catch the legend in action, but to share his birthday celebrations – he’s sure to rock it, coz as he says, he "couldn’t think of a better place to be." We can – the dance floor.
Friday 3rd March, 10pm till 9am. Pre-sale tickets available from the Market: members $15,
general $20; or on the night: members $15 after midnight, general $25.
