MCV 269 - Dirty Minx

Flirty, shirty, Dirty Minx

JOSH DARE checks out the new monthly Saturday night party.

It’s the first Saturday night of the month, you’re round the north side of town, you wanna go out but have a hankering for a night with a bit a change? Say, a gay party that’s non-scene, non-attitude non-exclusive night? You want Dirty Minx, my friend.

Paying homage to some of London’s stellar alternative club nights (such as Popstarz and The Ghetto’s line up, for those in the know), Dirty Minx will not only bring you 80s, 90s and current indie alternative pop from DJ duo Bruno and Ebeneezer, but live music from resident rockers The Minority – who have been hailed as Melbourne’s answer to Scissor Sisters.

February’s opening night attracted an eclectic crowd who came for the punk-ish vibes and weren’t disappointed. The range of punters was so diverse, in fact, one group of gay guys thought they’d walked into a straight venue inadvertently. But I’m reliably informed they were quickly gay-affirmed and had a kick ass evening. No doubt they’ll be back for Dirty Minx’s next party, so join ‘em this Saturday – and then on the first Saturday of each month – for your dose of the Dirty Minx magic.

Saturday March 4, 10pm-3am @ Barleycorn Hotel, 177 Johnson Street Collingwood. $6 entry.
