MCV 270 – Therese
Therese
How many Swedish pop sensations do you know? Aside from Abba, ya punk. There’s only one worth a mention: Therese.
You have to admire the guts of a 13 year old who calls a record company and sings to their answering machine in the hopes of getting a contract – and obviously record executives did, as she soon scored a deal. Five years later, Therese had several gold and platinum awards, had sold over 250,000 records and was one of Sweden’s best known celebrities.
She soon released Acapulco, her first English album that paid clear homage to modern dance acts. As she said at the time,"I am a house/club artist by heart, and I want my music to generate feelings in the body. I just love to dance; the feeling just sits there in the back of my spine."
With that in mind, it’s no surprise that her next release – and her biggest hit to date – was worldwide dance floor filler Put ‘Em High, a collaboration with Swedish DJ Stonebridge; which was soon to be followed by a repeat collaboration and success with Take Me Away. Realising her international recognition, last year she released her own single Time and is coming down here to make sure you’ve heard about it – don’t miss her live PA (alongside DJs Peter McNamara, Frisky and Luke Bowditch) at the Market this Sunday. Don’t fret about work, it’s Labour Day long weekend, chump. See you in the early hours of Monday morning.
Therese @ the Market, Sunday March 12, 10pm-7am. Entry $20, members free before midnight, $15 after.
