SX National 36 - Diva deathmatch

Natalie Bassingthwaighte

How would you describe your own music?

Electro rock with a touch of campness.

Have you ever asked, "Don’t you know who I am?"

(Laughs) Usually I say "Don’t you know who I think I am?"

Have you ever dated one of your backing dancers?

No I haven’t! I’m seeing someone at the moment but it’s secret… so, no comment.

Have you ever snapped at a member of the media?

No – well, maybe behind the scenes. I found generally, when I was overseas, it was more the general public like I would turn around and they would have a video camera about a metre away from me just filming my conversation. I turned around and looked at this lady and went ‘oh my god’ and then she quickly ducked away… Nothing really happened, I just felt really uncomfortable – I thought I’d be a bit embarrassed if I asked her and she said ‘But I wasn’t filming you!’

Have you ever lip-sync’d?

Umm… only in my own lounge room.

What’s on your list of backstage demands?

Usually I get a bottle of Tia Maria and just little nibblies – I’m pretty cruisy with my backstage demands. I get hot water with lemon, little bits and pieces to nibble on – nothing too solid.

How many pets do you have, and are any of them lap-sized?

I’ve got none!

Your house is on fire: what do you rescue first?

I would try and rescue anything with my memories – so any photos that I had, probably my laptop and my video camera. And anything that I’d had since I was little.

How many pieces of jewellery are you wearing right now? And were any of those pieces given to you by a designer?

Three! And yes, the ring that I’m wearing is from the Australian Diamond Company – it’s a twinkly ring with lots of diamonds in it.

Are any of your family members employed in your management team?

No.

Who’s your biggest celebrity friend?

My biggest celebrity friend… (Pauses) I don’t know! Just say Alan Fletcher (Dr Karl), coz that’ll make him laugh!

Rogue Trader’s album Here Comes The Drums is out now.
